help identifying two parts

on a 78 350.

the hoses that come off of this dont go to anything and have been that way for awhile. i thought they just went to the windshield fluid sprayers but now im not sure.

coming off the back of the intake:




also... what does this do? it looks like its going to get in the way when i put on my headers finally...

 The hose/metal tube in your first picture should go to the modulator on the transmission. The other Two on there would go to something that need a vacuum source...plug them if they are not going to anything.
 The lower photo is your water temp. sending unit. The headers will be made to clear this...it's there on many SBC's. Hope this helps, Lorne

The top pic, on my truck one of those vac hoses goes to the heater. And yeah, temp gauge on the bittom pic. Different style heads and headers, it might be in the way. If it is just cut the flange to make it fit.

what do those lines normally go to? thats crazy that its been disconnected this whole time  :-\

the base of that T connector seems to be really loose too.

upon even further inspection, the metal line thats on top of the T connected doesnt feel like it goes to anything. it goes back behind/under the firewall and i cant see where exactly its supposed to connect. uhhh what?!

     Are you sure it's not going to the transmission ?

should it be wiggling freely? it seems to have too much play to be connected(at least properly, anyway) to anything.


this seems like a simple problem without a simple fix.

If any of those things are loose or not hooked up, you will have a vacuum leak there. Should be simple enough to track down and replace the hoses, and put some pipe sealer on the t-fitting and thread it tight into the manifold.

the trans vacuum hose goes between the motor and the firewall towards the passenger side.   if you are looking up at the tranny from under the truck, it should  be up on the pass. side connected to the modulator.

One of them could go to the brake booster too. If in fact they are disconnected it must run like crap. Thats a huge vacuum leak.

brake booster line is fine. the one to the trans is fine too...its just that the rubber connecter down by the modulator is really soft and really does have a lot of wiggle to it.
