th350 gov kit
« on: March 08, 2011, 05:47:51 pm »
Alright so I'm wanting to try and adjust my shift points in my th350 my k10 has and curious for what would be the best kit to buy and any tips on doing this? Right now I can be in 3rd gear with the motor warm before 25-30mph and wot it shifts about 3k! The transmission has only about 2500miles on it and was new when I put it in along with the new motor. It came from summit racing as one of there brand transmissions and has a shift kit and deep chrome pan. The shifts are nice and firm but no where near where they need to be. The shifting points in the old transmission were perfect but I believe it was a stock built transmission. I'd like to get my wot 1-2shift to around 5500 and 2-3 around 5200-5300 and go from there and see if that works for it my ideal part throttle would be about 3k since the times I've manualy shifted it under normal throtle it seems to drive/feel the best when shifted there.

Did you adjust the modulator?

I've never tried a kit but am looking into getting one as well. I had adjusted my mod but it only has a range of about 3 or so MPH and the farther out the shift points are the harder the shift, so I am going to get the B&M 20248 - B&M Governor Recalibration Kits (Summit) due to reviews and the fact that I can only find one other, the TCI 326500 which runs a few dollars cheaper but can't find any reviews on it.

Looking at different sites I've found that most choose the B&M Governor Recalibration Kit, so, thats what I'm going to use.

Good luck and let us (me) know how it goes.

I don't mind the firmer shifts so much but they just happen too soon. If I had a lower gear and not so much of a converter it might not feel so bad but the converter helps it pull along good in third when it shifts so soon.

Either your governor springs need to be changed or the valve is sticking or you never adjusted the modulator. Start with the modulator. It takes 2 seconds and a pocket screwdriver.

Vile is right, the mod is where I started, can't see into it but could 'feel' the screw, turned it one full turn clockwise and noticed a difference in shift-points.

Now I just have to find a screw driver small enough to fit inside the opening. How far can it be adjusted without ruining the modulator? Anyone have any pictures of what it looks like inside of the govener cover also?

So I made some adjustments today and before any changes it would be in 3rd gear by 30mph under normal accel and 1-2 wot was 3100 2-3 2800rpm. I adjusted it twice total of 2-3turns hard to tell exactly how far I turned it in. Final adjustment got it where I'd be in third by 35 and 1-2wot got to 3500/3600rpm amd 2-3 at 3200. Closer but not where I need it and I hurt my back somehow yesterday and I'm gona be out of commision to work on the truck till it gets better I can hardly drive it right now it hurts so bad :/ looks like ill be ordering a kit afterall.
