Winaldl and cable
« on: March 10, 2011, 04:59:56 pm »
Okay...so I have messed around with a fair number of aftermarket EFIs, but never any factory stuff.  As I understand I can get a free-copy of WinALDL and either make a cable or buy a cable.  I kind of like the idea of buying the cable cause it has a nice connector for the ALDL, but that is my only reason.

Anyways...I have read several posts and internet sites, but don't have the answers to my questions yet.

1) will the USB cable with the ALDL connector on the end work with WinALDL?
2) will WinALDL work with my '91 TBI454 and 4L80e?
3) what is my best alternative to WinALDL that has graphing capabilities? Free?/Cost?

Thanks for your help in advance!  I did do some searching, but just didn't find definitive answers to my questions.

See if http://www.autoenginuity.com/ does OBDI

I have so many scan tools I've never needed a PC based program.

I know winaldl was the poor man's scan tool and was pretty popular for a while.

You have to make a bin for your truck to use winaldl.  I have it but don't have a bin for my crew with the tbi/4l80e.  I don't remember if it will work with a usb but it should.

If I understand you right you are talking about making a .bin to flash a blank chip correct?  Right now I just want to be able to datalog so I can see what is going on.  Changes will come later.

No, you have to create a bin file to datalog with WINALDL, it has to know the mapping to read the ECM, they don't have it for the trucks with the 4L80E
