c10 newb in Va- 6 to 8 swap
« on: March 20, 2011, 01:26:20 am »
Bought an 80 sumthin 4.3 shortbed. Fist mod to come, v8 swap. Any pointers on this swap would be much appreciated. Even the obvious stuff as i havnt picked it up yet. Are the trannies and rear in the 4.3 stout enough to keep in? Nice to meet you all, hope to gain some knowledge from everyone!

Welcome from NW Indiana.  Swap is pretty easy, your trans is fine.  You will need the V-8 frame engine mounts from a donor truck, other than that pretty much plug and play.  Use the search function, there are a couple of write ups on it.

Welcome from AZ. I thought the 4.3 had the same mounts as a V8, they're the same architecture.

The frame brackets that the rubber mounts bolt to are different.
