86 K10, 350, power steering problems..

Ive been having some issues with my power steering lately. If i turn a tight corner without giving the truck any throttle,
the power steering belt whines and the steering sort of chugs and i have to give it some gas to get it to keep going.
I do know the power steering fluids a bit dirty. Would my pump be causeing this or dirty ps fluid or what else could it be?
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

do you have larger tires?

Check the belt's tightness too

ill try and clean the pump and put some new fluid in it. ive only got 31's on it. but the drivers side tire has a slow leak, and goes flat almost every night. so that might be part of it.

that doesnt sound like a slow leak. Ive had good luck with those rope plugs.

beastie, The ones that look like slim jims? Haha. My dad wont use those, because he says they could blow out. So he usues the Patch&Plug which is a patch on the inside with the slimjim plug in the middle. You drill the size of the hole in your tire a little to make a tight fit with the plug. Then cut of the excess on the outside. But, where is your leak coming from? You cant patch the sidewall!

How do you get all the old fluid out?

lol. its got a leak on the sidewall. the po put a plug in it and i dont think he did it right, so it leaks. i was gonna ask that too, how do you get all the old fluid out? lol. ive never done it before. im also having another problem with my 86. its got a 350, from something, i dont know what. it originally had a 305 but anyways.. i go to start it up the other day, and i start it up and after a couple seconds it dies (it always does, i live in michigan) and i give the gas a pump before i go to start it, which i never do, i always give it a pump right after it starts. so it starts, but its got a really high idle. it had a high idle before, but not this high. i gave it some gas and it still idled high, so i shut it off and started it again, and it still idled high. i turned the idle screw down on the carb, but it didnt really do anything. its got a newer electric choke edelbrock carb on it. and im not sure whats making it do that. maybe the choke? the throttle cable? i havent did much to it considering we just got like a foot and a half of snow. if you guys could help any, it would be great. thanks.

If its on the sidewall you should replace that tire they can't be patched. Its the weakest part of the tire. That's why when someone cuts a tire due to a cheating spouse its on the side and it can't just be patched it has to be replaced. I think its cause the amount of flex the sidewall flexes

ohhh. i see. well i got a new set of tires priced the other day, and i dont quite have 640 bucks. lol. ill just keep filling it up with the air compressor every now and then.

I have used those plugs many times, and they last the life of the tire.

well ive got everything fixed except for the leaking tire. lol. ill just have to look around for another set of 31s. thanks for the help.
