long road trip tires

If you needed a brand new set of tires and knew you were taking a long trip what would you get for tires?  I'm thinking mileage so I would want something tall and narrow in a load range E for hauling.  I have a 73 K2500 GMC I appreciate the help.

you have 16 or 16.5 wheels?  for tall and skinny I'd get a 235/75R16 or a 7.50-16.  I dunno about 16.5 rim sizes though.

Chris put a set of Open Country HT Toyos's on one of his trucks that were E rated. He might chime in with the size when he reads this.

I have mine on 17" Hummer wheels.   I love the way the ride.  Right after I got them I put about 900 miles on them.

I'd go with BFG commercial t/a's in the size Kenny mentioned or E rated Michellin's, I had them on my 92 dually for 85 thousand miles.

BFG is releasing their latest crossbred tire on may 1st, the Rugged Terrain.  Its tons better than the rugged trail and more civil than the all terrain.  They are claiming the target audience is soccer moms and posers who want off road looking sidewall with great street manners.   I think these may be exactly what many of you are looking for.

If you have a 16" wheel, you can go as skinny as 215/85/16.

Also, Look for LRR or Low Rolling Resistance Tires.  Several manufacturers make them but I don't know which ones besides michelin.

I wanted some Michelin LTX MS2's as they were LRR in the size I wanted, but they were undersized compared to other tires in that size so I had to get something else.

I notice that it doesn't include any truck tires.  I bet the rolling resistance on a tall and narrow truck tires pressured at 85 psi might be lower than these LRR tires.
