Looking for a good restoration shop
« on: April 19, 2011, 02:10:17 pm »
Hello,

I am trying to restore my Dad's '73 Chevy Cheyenne.  Although it's in pretty bad shape it's running and has a ton of sentimental value.

Here are some posted pictures of the truck: http://home.comcast.net/~rosa.18/site/?/photos/

I am not trying to get this to any kind of "Show-Truck" status, just want most things to work, take care of the extensive body work, and give it a good paint job.  But it's still going to be too much for me to do on my own.

Please e-mail or message me with any suggestions:

hey there
not trying to be mean but unless you have a ton of money you might want to try to tackle this stuff your self. #1  what sis wrong with the truck. With the help you can get here you can tackle almost anything. worst case you screw it up and have to do it over. As far as the body and paint sure sub that out but if it was me I would try everything else your self. You will be supprised at how some things are pretty simple when you get help from here walk you through. GOOD LUCK

it's running and has a ton of sentimental value.

The sentimental curse. I couldn't break it either, and it's still taking alot of money, blood and sweat to get my truck the way I want it.
With that said, take the time and effort it takes to acquire the skills, the money it takes to buy the tools and parts, and the patience to do most of it yourself. You may need to farm out some of the work like the finish paint job, but getting your hands dirty bringing it back to glory will add to the personal value that you place on the truck, and the sentimental value for your future generations. You'll find nothing but help, information, and encouragement here. Welcome to the site, and best of luck on the restoration.

Unless the drivers side is caved in I don't see too much wrong there except for the mismatched tires, cactus crusher, visor and maybe a slightly bent hood. I'd go at it yourself. These trucks bolt together pretty easy.

 :D Cactus Crusher

I'd ditch the running boards and mud flaps too while you're at it.

Dude, if you think that truck is rough, you should see the POS I decided to tackle. Like everyone else says, roll up your sleeves and try to do some of it yourself. Pay for what you cant do. I suggest you keep it intact as much as possible if you are short on coin....otherwise you might run out while its still in pieces. (which means it stays in pieces longer)
good luck, and dont be afraid to ask any questions you have - lots of knowledge and good guys here

I rather do what the guy said roll up those sleves get at it parts are cheap the truck looks solid. True you put more in it than it's worth if you buy one restored put nothing it,it's not your work in it. Even if you only do 30 to 40 percent of the work you restored something that alone is great. I'm very loyal to my family, and my cars it sounds dumb to be into a piece of steel?? Not me I'm a steel worker I roll steel in a mill that's just part of it. My 1st car I have it in my garage had my best times in it young being wild to taking my girlfriend now wife in that car,to driving my kids around in it lol. They see it and want it now.. Whatever you think you can do you can whatever you think you can't with effort you can. I say body work and stuff sub out of course but to me it's a lifestyle these trucks it's chevy it's what we all love.. Even when we disagree etc we all love Chevys

So if you click on the link he gave us, its got a few more pics of the truck, pretty solid, needs a paint job, or a few dozen coats of wax. Also I think he's in Washington.

Question off topic my truck looks to be from Washington and Alabama I'm by Chicago but it just came up. Would a truck in Washington be solid, here salt weather etc is brutal on these trucks..

Back to his truck it's nice wonder what he did with it..

Depends on the truck, some parts of WA are just rainy, others get the snow and salt. Bama has the humidity worse than anywhere I can remember being in my life, all in all I'd say you most likely have a solid truck
