New trailer wiring, fast blink turn signals
« on: May 07, 2011, 04:53:57 pm »
I just got done wiring a 7 pin trailer connector and it all seems well until I hook up the trailer.. the turn signals flash much quicker.  Do I just need a new Heavy duty flasher?

i have a 7 pin connector on both my 79 pick up and 91 sub when pulling my 30' camper trailer.  Mine never had any problems.  I am wondering if you have a bulb out.  I do know that when a bulb is blown, the flash pattern speeds up drastically.  Any bulbs out on the trailer?

I'm going to upgrade to the electrical/mechanical type ( vs thermal).  After learning about how thermal flashers work I'm pretty sure the increase in load is causing the symptoms.

im thinking more like sgt now a blown bulb will cause rapid flash and the more bulbs should cause slower flash. are the trailer lights l.e.d.

That is correct. Less lighting means more juice going to flasher, making it faster. Even if the trailer lights are LED, they are drawing off the same circuit.
