85 Power Window Wiring Help
« on: May 11, 2011, 09:02:41 PM »
So my power windows aren't working. The motors are fine, I ran a jumper from 12V to the switch and I can get them up and down.  I am not reading a voltage on the fuse panel where the power window 12v wire plugs in at.  Is there a relay or fuse behind this section of the fuse panel?  Not sure where to go from here, anyone have a suggestion?  Also I blew the fuse on the ACC section of the panel as well (first jumper attempt went bad), I'm guessing where I find the fuse for this section I'll find the WDO fuse.  I also checked the ACC fuse on my panel and its good.

Thanks for the help!

No relay listed on the circuit diagram, so a fuse somewhere?

Phil, if you're not getting a voltage reading at the fuse, the fuse is bad. Unless I misread your post.
There isn't another fuse panel  behind the one under the dash.
The relay is back up under there tho, by the brake pedal linkage next to the firewall, and pretty much a challenge to get to..

Phil, if you're not getting a voltage reading at the fuse, the fuse is bad.

The voltage I'm checking isn't a fuse.  The ACC line (the three input ports the to right of the WDO ports) is where I'm checking.  There is no fuse there, just connection pins.  I had ran a jumper wire from this section of the panel and was testing my windows. Accidentally hit a ground, and heard a pop.  It sounded like the pop was behind the firewall, but not sure.  It sounds like if there is another fuse panel behind this one then that may be where I need to look.

Also what type of relay should I use to replace the power window/lock relay?  Many sites do not list a relay for the windows/locks, and the nearest thing I have found is this: http://www.partstrain.com/store/?PN=5866&VN=4294967243+4294966993+4294966307+4294962826+4294966320&N=0&Nr=AND(universal:0)

A 90 dollar part, surely there is some other cheaper relay that can be used.

I take it you didn't look at the schematic I posted.

Actually I did.  But not enough times.  When I first looked at the diagram I didn't understand what the blocks were, and had no idea how the wires were run.  Now however, I realize the blocks are the connectors and I have traced the diagram and realized that the relays are only for the power locks.  I could care less if those work, so I'll just now jumper a 12v line to the pink at the fuse and call my windows good.  Should I fuse this line at all? At what amp rating?

My second question I think is a little more difficult, the ACC line.

This diagram just shows a wire connecting the ACC line to the radio fuse, which makes sense, however I'm looking for where the ACC line connects to +12v, because I believe somewhere in between there, a burnt fuse will exist.

I've checked the other diagrams listed in the tech section and still haven't found what I'm looking for so hopefully someone might be able to help me out.
