tensioner pulley

I just changed my tensioner pulley about a week ago and used one off of a backup engine i have that's been sitting for about a year...it just started making noise again. not as bad but i can hear it. Should I buy a new one or is something else wrong? thanks

didn't you say earlier that the noise didn't seem to be coming from the p.s. pump, but the tensioner pulley?  I hate to keep throwing things out there, but, the water pump bearings could also be on the verge---does the fan, which is bolted to the pump, have any play when you push and pull the blades front and back?
You mentioned last week the p.s. pump noise didn't change when turning the wheel. I would think the whine would get higher or lower as you turn the wheel if it was the p.s. pump.

I changed the tensioner and there's no play in the fan. It doesnt do it at an idle now. while driving i hear it in 1st and 2nd. The power steering makes a slight noise while turning at an idle in park, but nothing out of the ordinary...

Sounds like a power steering whine. but its not that.

kind of leaning with sgt towards a bearing. get a mechanics stethoscope screwdriver and listen to the alt water pump and a/c if you have it

some one told me to take the belt off and spin all of the pulleys and see if any make noise. its hard to tell with the fan noise. would this work?

take the fan off? you wont over heat in a couple minutes, if your cold to start. i doubt unless the bearing or pulley is making then noise you can spin it that fast by hand

If it's making a noise at that RPM it should sound different or even feel different when spun by hand.

The broomstick or mechanic's stethoscope would tell you real fast, too - instead of hearing a nice smooth whirring you would hear grinding - which at speed you could probably hear in the truck.

I've replaced a couple alternator's because the bearing went bad in them before anything else- yeah you can replace the bearing by getting a kit, but I just replace them at that point.
