aftermarket air filter

sup guys, i bough from ebay a new air filter houseing for my truck... but didnt think of the hoses and sensors that connect to my old housing... on the new one theres 2 pre-made holes,i just gotta take out part of the metal hole out... and on the old one theres 4... so could i use this new air housing? just make 2 more holes or how other people with aftermarket air filters have it?

Im guessing the new one is on top? You could always eliminate whatever lines go to the air cleaber.

eliminating lines wont affect or give me the check engine light?

I dont believe eliminating those lines will give a check engine light although i have a carburetor. I replaced my air cleaner with a chrome one like you posted. But i removed all vacuum lines except the vac advance. So im not sure.

The original its kinda or was chrome at some time.. I was trying to upgrade, or trying to make the engine compartment little more updated ...

IMO - what you have chosen isn't an upgrade. Clean up that nice chrome one you have.

yea i tryed cleaning the old one,but still looks the same.. so in this case... if i wanted to choose any other air filter housing that its not the stock one, i will have to plug or something, the hoses that the new one air filter housing dont have holes for it? theres a hose from the canister to the filter,a sensor with hoses,from carb. to filter,from valve cover to filter...

Would your current filter housing benefit from a good rubdown with some sort of polish? Like chrome polish if its chrome plated, or some aluminum polish if it's bare aluminum. It looks great in the pictures. You can buy chrome plated lids for those too, some of them are plain, some have factory decals, and I'm sure some have "Chevrolet" or a bowtie embossed on them. That would dress up that area, and give it a more unique look, too.
But yeah, if you start fixing stuff that isn't broken, you just end up breaking it.
Also, you can put a K&N filter in that original housing, and your engine will breathe a bit easier.

I'm having trouble with the above sentence. As Vile mentioned...Is it REALLY an UPGRADE to lose the hot air tube & vacuum door for the choke system, a properly designed air ventilation tube & fresh air intake duct?
Those open element air cleaners were around about 10 years BEFORE the first square body truck was made, not hardly an UPDATE.
One more time on the reason your wanting to ditch the factory one? This is one area that I can't relate to "making problems" especially for an average, mostly stock vehicle that is driven as basically a daily driver.
Of coarse, it's your truck, your money & your the one that has to drive it so do as you please. Remember, your not talking to naive, non-automotive people...Let's just not call it an UPDATE or UPGRADE...I can come up with a word that may fit, but the "UP" is at the end

Ummm... what bout replacement, out dated, looks, lol
i dont mind keeping the old air filter... im just asking that if its OK or possible to put a new air filter housing and maybe loose some hoses that the old ones connecteds to and the new one dont have holes for it..
