seafoam hurt me....
« on: June 22, 2011, 08:44:37 pm »
i had a slightly rough idle. not bad. just noticeable. i used seafoam. now it smels......runs twice as rough....and takes twice the work to start. still starts and runs ok at temp... but idle and cold engine are horrible. i took the pcv hose off and used it. i only poured one fifth or less in to test it out. thats all i used. what do u think went wrong? please help. my perfect running engine is the heart of this truck. what does seafoamm do inside the engine exactly? i know it cleans but what exactly? how did i hurt my performance with seafoam?

If I understand, you basically just put it in the valve cover? That shouldn't affect anything as far as running because you didn't even get it to the combustion chamber. Maybe you just plugged up your PVC valve? My concern would be diluting your oil with it.

So you're saying you sucked it through the pvc hose? And you used 1/5 of a can? I have always poured it in the tank, there's instructions on the can for how much to add per gallon of gas. And yes, it will run like crap, smoke and stink for a while but should clear up. How long have you ran the engine since you put it in there?

Actually, it says to pour it in the oil to clean the rings and such, then change the oil.
It also says to pour it in the intake to clean the intake and valves, along with the top of the pistons....The smoke for "effect" is actually nasties from inside your engine burning off.....

I put it in the pcv hose but to the carb side. It sipped it in. Got my info from a post vile commented on. Pretty sure i did it right. Only drove about 20 miles since but it was all trail so it was cranked and idled for maybe 4 hours. When its warm its just pedal studder and slight coughing. But when cold its junk.

Whenever I've seafoamed anything in the top end of the motor I've always read and done to go out and beat the snot outa it to get all that crap out of the motor. When I fisrt got my yukon I did it and it was woman owned its first 60k and prob babied and it smoked like a freight train for like 30mins the first time I punched it the road behind me disapeared. From what I understand the more smoke the more crud that was built up in the motor.

Not sure what you are referring to me about but if you are going to please be detailed. Why are you using it, how are you using it would be helpful. If you are trying to decarbonize, make sure the engine is up to operating temp and that you are using it moderately as to not cause a hydrolock and change the oil after.

Post is old. Started by skunksmash. 2009 i think. Titled which line do u suck stuff up? I was just saying i trust ur advice. I did it because it idled rough. Started kinda tired. Did all other things to remedy....plugs...wires.....cap....rotor....  U said u used gm top cleaner on a lot of stuff so i figured i couldnt go wrong with a baby amount of seafoam. Which u said was less powerful.
