some lsx swap questions.
« on: June 24, 2011, 11:40:46 pm »
I'm getting the itch to start a lsx 4l60e swap on my k10 even though the wife wants $e to sell it :p. Anyway is there a company who makes long tubes for this swap in our trucks? I thought I remember seeing one time in a search that someone used the 4thgen fbody ebay longtubes and they fit in the 73-87 4x4 body stlye but don't quote me on that lol.I've also thought about just cutting my current long tubes and weldingthe right flanges on and go. I really would like to do it with a 4l60e and change the cam and run a modded tb converter and possibly a small cam BUT on the other hand I thought it would be a fun oppertunity to play with boost some. If I boosted it I would prob keep my 3.42s and the th350. I've found a few good deals on some 4.8s and from what I gather from my past few years on ls1truck they love boost even more so than the 5.3s but its just idk if I could bring myself to go with a 4.8 before a 5.3 or 6.0. Fuel system would be my big worry cause I'd like to keep both tanks since if I do the swap I'd like to be able to take it on some trips. I've completed a 5.3/th350 swap in my 3rd gen fbody and those cars are the most backwards things to work on so the truck in my mind shouldn't be too bad. Anyway excuse the rambaling but if ya got any answers comments or advice I'd greatly apreciate it! Thanks.

4.8's are cheap and plentiful, lower compression ratio is good for boost. Most yards will give you one for a coke and a smile. Turbocharge it and headers aren't an issue anymore. If you want to keep dual tanks, remember you'll be upgrading 2 fuel systems essentially. If you go with an aod, just run a big single tank and motor on down the road.

Is it possible to use one of the newer trucks tanks in these trucks? Like I'm running a fuel tank from a 2000 camaro in my 86 ta but they are almost similar other than body panels. If I could use a newer tank all I'd have to do is run new fuel lines.

The issue is gonna be the pump, Chevy didn't put anything crazy in them, much more than a cam and your fuel pumps maxed out and you risk running lean. With boost your two main issues are cooling and fueling, plan on having lots of both to prevent your motor from popping.

Well the big benifit I can see if I can swap a single newer tank would be the newer pumps sitting in the bucket like thing helping from fuel starvation and just be nice to have one decent size tank. I don't mind changin pumps not like how it is in my car and I have to drop out the rearend out to get the tank out lol. If I could make 330-400whp range I'd be happy.

Copy my fuel system and you'll be fine, 87 tanks have the bowl for the fuel pump to sit in.

Did you just run a single tank? Got any links/pictures to your setup?

about the bottom of the page. thats a walbro 255 sitting in a new 87 factory sender. I got my tank and sender from rock auto, fuel pump is a specific part number to get the correct wiring for it, i'll let you know monday if you want. You should be able to get it from Summit, too many knockoffs on ebay.
