So i am trying to get my 454 onto this big monster of an engine stand i was able to pick up. Problem is I can only seem to manipulate the stands arms enough to be able to attach to the lower of the six bolts on the engine. I am a noob and I'd appreciate only positive criticism. I have grade eight bolts going into it about a half inch. It holds but I'm thinking I should be attaching to the upper and lower bolt holes. Should I be concerned?  ???

I always try to use the upper and lower bolts. Try rotatong the mountomg plate 180 degrees and seeing if the arms will reach. Thats a heavy engone and you dont want it balancing in the air and held up by only the bottom. you want a good center of gravity, not only for safety but for ease of movement. You have to roll the engine over to get to all angles of it. Seeing as bbc and sbc have the same bell housing pattern, I would assume it wont be too much of an issue to do. And about a half inch of bolt on each bolt should hold. You dont want to bottom it out, but you dont want it barely clinging.

Yeah, I'm going to give it another go when I get out of work. It held but I didn't disconnect it from the hoist yet and I'm using that to assist until i get a warm fuzzy with it. I had to flip it 180 just to get it where it is now. l connected it while the mounting plate was attached to the stand. I'll try to take the mounting plate out and mount it that way. Hopefully it will be easier. I may have just gotten fed up with how much I was sweating just trying to get that thing off the garage floor. Thanks for the input guys.

You're doing something wrong because it should be able to span the bellhousing

Got it all taken care of. With a bit longer bolts as well. Don't know what my problem was there at first. Everything lined up great during my second crack at it.
