Ever wired up an electric gauge?
« on: July 14, 2011, 11:32:18 pm »
Hi all. I recently bought a digital water temp gauge. My factory gauge sucked too much. It would say the truck was running at 155 when my code reader would say it was running at 183. I blame it on a factory gauge that probably wasn't great back in 1987. Let alone now. So anyway, where do I tie into for power? Just any old hot wire? Or do I need to run this all the way to the battery? I'm kind new at wiring up my own stuff.

Hi bud, I'd run the feed from the temp sender to gauge, power feed from ignition so any live when the key is on click one and then earth/ground it

Pretty basic really

Probly a dumb question, but is there any need to run the new sensor and wire? Is there any reason I shouldn't just use the old one? I replaced that actual sensor itself a year ago.

Most of the time the sensor/sending unit is what goes bad. Ive had to replace my Mechanical temp gauge 3 times already because of the sending unit going out and it not showing the temp.
