windshield stains

 Had a new windshield installed last year and after dirving for awhile it naturally got bugs splattered on it. I can't seem to get it clean. It's as if the windshield is poris and the stains are permanant.
 Anybody else have this problem? Do I need a better cleaner? Then maybe seal the glass with something?

I use steel wool and it cleans EVERYTHING off your windows, bugs, wax, those windshield markers etc.

If that doesn't work and you find it is minor scratches or water spotting, Cerium Oxide is a glass polish.  Comes as a powder, add a sm amt of water to make a paste, then using a low rpm drill/pad or buffer work it in the glass until clear and rinse with water.

 Did you mean plastic wool? Steel wool will scratch any windshield. I use a windshield scrubber from wal-mart on all my cars and it works great on all but the truck.

Get a dryer sheet and wet it then scrub the bugs off with it works really well on baked on bugs and does not scratch, also leaves the truck smelling fresh and clean!!!

I do this with my motorcycles, keep them in the bag cause they stow away easy then just add water and presto a cleaning rag.

Steel wool, triple 000 or finer. It won't scratch the glass.

I gotta agree with everyone on the steel wool, whenever I get a new (okay old) vehicle it's one of the first things I clean. I just use really good glass cleaner, the kind that comes in an aerosol can and steel wool.

how does that work with the bug guts being on the outside of the truck? how can you smell the fabric sheet from the inside ::)

     I would think my neighbor is a little off his rocker if I saw him sniffing his windshield in the morning.  :P  ???  ;D

Maybe he cleans the inside of the windshield with the fabric softner sheets too !

One way that takes a bit more time is a razor blade. Get the window wet and then scrape the junk off. I do that when I get over spray on my windows. It comes right off. Just hold the flat side of the blade at a 45 degree angle to the window.

in my experience in blades you have to use the ones out of utility knifes so the flex to the curve of the glass

Single edge razor blades are what an inch long at best? How much curve does any glass have in a one inch span?

i must be thinking of a diffrent type then about 2.5" lol with the thick end. i cant remember what i was using one for but it wouldnt curve to the shape i needed had to steal one out of the box knife
