my brake lights stopped working! need help!
« on: December 22, 2003, 07:08:00 pm »
My brake lights recently stopped working. The tailights still work as do the reverse lights. I tried changing the bulbs but that did not help. Any ideas?

The brake light switch on the brake pedal. Mine went twice, once the part of it for my tranny lockup went, then in the new one the brake lights went. Put a new switch in its been great for about 5 months now!

Its above the brake lever, underneath the dash. First, push the brake pedal down and watch the switch to see if the button comes out, it could just be gettin stuck. If it looks fine, take out the switch or just unplug it and if you have an ohmmeter check the switch out. It should read low ohms with the button out, and high ohms with it pushed in. If it reads high both ways the switch is bad.
If you dont have an ohmmeter you may wanna pickup a new switch, you could always return it. I payed $5.87 for mine.

You can jump the two wires across and if the lights come on the switch is probably junk.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs
