manual to auto swap
« on: November 30, 2011, 05:08:05 pm »
i ended up getting a real good deal on a turbo 400 to swap into my 87 swb. the guy gave me the adapter for my 208 case, flywheel, converter, dipstick, crossmember, mounts etc $200. i'm not gonna column shift it right away for now i bought the b&m unimatic floor shifter. if anyone hase pics of this one mounted can you post em so i can see approximately where it will fit best on the floor. also if anyone knows how i do the kickdown cable with the tbi 350? and if you have pics that would be great.

TH400 kick down is controlled by a solenoid.  I am not really sure what else you are asking?

I converted from a manual to a TH-400 too. I couldn't easily find the factory kickdown parts when I did the swap, so I opted for this Lokar unit. So far, so good.

Are there different versions of the TH400? What exactly does this lokar kit do? My TH400 kickdown runs off manifold vacuum to a solenoid on the side of the transmission. The only parts you should need would be a vacuum hose with a bit of steel tubing and maybe a tee for the manifold.

The kickdown on a TH400 is an electrical switch on the accelerator pedal.

If your trucks an 87 with a TBI motor I believe the kickdown is  controlled by the computer. Maybe you can retro fit the gas pedal switch like Capt and Blazing said.

For the detent use GM 1242101 or equivalent.  The factory under-dash brackets and accelerator pedal arm should be compatible for a bolt-in, wire 'n drive (plug-n-play) experience.  ;)

Yeah, not sure what I was thinking. Vacuum modulator is what I meant.
