The early models required you to unbolt the trunion before you could remove it. You could just do the same thing by modifying it.

I've seen some people use a hose clamp around the right trunion.  At best it slows would-be thieves down.

In other words... if people learn by making mistakes, by now I should know just about everything!!!

Sad thing is they are probably going to scrap it.  Thieves will steal just about anything nowadays.

I know on the 2000 Chevys on up they make a lock kit I'm sure one of these could be adapted to work for our trucks kind of a "club"  for the handle

Ah... so *that's* why that hose clamp is on there... I wondered about that, but haven't had the need to remove my tailgate.

Simple fix.I bought a hinge you would put on a door, bent it to fit (L shape) and put on a lock that can not be cut with bolt cutters. It has saved my tailgate more than once.

Whats sad is these tailgates from all makes and models are being stolen. I heard its a big thing going on now, luckily for me my 2 trucks stay in the garage.. I hope you find what your looking for and can stop this from happening again.

thanks
