'87 GMC Short-Box
« on: December 13, 2011, 05:19:28 pm »
Hey guys! My names Aaron, im a newcomer from the Western New York area (Buffalo). I figured id share my truck with you guys to see what you think! Feedback is appreciated, good or bad. The truck is currently in storage and i cant wait til the weather breaks and i can get it on the road again. Theres not much else id like to do with the truck other then redoing the interior black which im sure ill need input on (dont know if i want buckets or keep the bench and uphollster it in black vinyl) Maybe some Blue LED's in the dash, a sound system, and hopefully an axle swap in the future (currently have 10 bolts) The truck has 0 rust and a new candy red paint job that looks amazing. Alot of work has been done to the truck body and mechanically. Oh ya, 406 under the hood. Ill list some mods and attach some pics. Thanks guys.

Looks like a beast!
I think you are on the right track with an axle upgrade. Those swampers are a lot of meat for a 10 bolt.

Give me a long enough lever and a place to stand, and I shall move the earth or break this bolt...Whatever, just hold my beer!

No mud...as of yet that is lol feel like its in too good of shape to beat on it like that. Plus wanna do axle swap prior to even thinking of that.

Nice lookin truck for sure. Don't just consider the axle swap as a strength upgrade though, the brakes on those little half ton diffs are being pushed with that much tire on there. I bet that thing goes like stink with that motor though!

Definitely will pin your head to the seat thats for sure! Previous owner actually ran a few NOS tanks through it surprisingly. And ya a better brake setup would be great as well. Really would like a 14 bolt in the rear and dana 60 up front. How much $$ do you think id be getting into to do something like that?

If you are patient and keep your eyes on craigslist you can get the axels for under $500 for the pair. A single wheel GM D-60 just sold locally and the asking price was $450. People try to get $1000 for a pair of one ton axels here in western NY but they never seem to sell.

Welcome to the site, was your truck featured in 4wheeler magazine ?  Wondered because of the front license plate being what is usually put on when a magazine shoots a truck.
