Should I get a new spindle?
« on: December 27, 2011, 07:56:44 pm »
Ya I didnt want to suggest hitting the spindle, someone out there would have used a regular hammer.

currently, due to frustration i resemble this remark. No i didn't actually hit the spindle with a hammer ( i know a machined surface when i see one..most of the time). I actually hit the spindle nuts and locking washer with a hammer and in the process nicked the spindle. It's not a big nick not even 2mm in either direction and less than one in depth. I'm thinking i can buff it out since it is right on a high side. Any thoughts on this working and if not, any good thoughts on shopping for a new one? Thanks in asvance for tha advice.

Depends on where the nick is.  Often times nicks can be dressed out.  Can you post a picture of it?

If a bearing race goes over it, no problem.  If a bearing rides on it then replace it.  I am not that familiar with the 4x4 front ends, post a picture...

Good advice after taking the pic I took the old outer bearing out of the rotor and the bearing race cobers it. So it looks like it just needs a little emery cloth and she will be good to go.

If you were down in the radius I'd be concerned.  I think it will dress out nicely.

Getting a dead blow as well

This is a must while working on vehicles.  Buy a good quality one, it will be money well spent over the years.
