What transfer case do you have ?  By locking the hubs, even if you do not shift the actual transfer case, you now have at least one side ( depends if you have a locker or not), spinning the axle shaft, the spider gears, and the front driveshaft.  Have you checked to see if the front drive shaft is turning ?
If the front driveshaft is turning then at least part of the transfer case is turning.  Why are you trying to go faster than 30 MPH with the front hubs locked and not in 4 WD ?
These old trucks need to have the oil turned in the diff's every once in awhile, but it only needs 5 or so min at slow speeds once a month.
So back to your question, it is very likely that your transfer case has a problem or just doesn't like not being locked in and spun that fast.
1 st thing check to see if it is a 203 and the front driveshaft is turning, that will tell you if it possibility could be the transfer case.  ( if you have a 203 and someone just slapped on locking hubs without installing The part time kit in the transfer case that right there could be the problem).

Just for reference I do 60 plus MPH with my hubs locked, and not shifted into 4x4.

x2
but i know before i replaced my cv joint (needles and springs) the front driveshaft would pop everynow and then till it binds up so bad it will snap a couple ears off the joint

My first thought is to remove the front driveshaft and check all the u-joints.

You don't need to remove the driveshaft to check the u-joints. Check the u-joints at the axle shafts, your wheel bearings, everything. You might want to get it on a lift and just get an inspection.
