Distributor question
«
on:

I installed a new msd streetfire hei dizzy in my truck and was wondering what the red wire that comes off the yellow one was for. I keep getting a small clatter under heavy acceleration sometimes no matter how much I advance or retard the distributor.

According to the instructions I just googled, the heavy red wire goes to a full time 12v source, and the smaller red wire goes to a keyed source, like an accessory spot on the fusebox. I don't see a picture.

Your pic did not work, and jaredts is correct as far as the instructions go.

Marvan, start the truck in the dark and look for sparking to see if it is outside or not. If you can not see it, see if you can pin point the area it is coming from and report back.
In other machines that I work on for work, we use spark type wires to run burners and such, even the smaller 24 volt pilot light assy's can short out through a wire sheath and create the tick, ticking noise if they get too close to a metal source, even if they are brand new.

Under heavy acceleration? Are you sure that isn't pinging? Have you rechecked your timing since installing this distributor? I know you said you have tried to advance and retard, but if you are a tooth off you'd have to turn it quite a bit. Do you know your initial timing? I may have mis-spoken as well about the wire. If this is a hei replacement, it should be plug and play just like oem with a b+ connector like the one you took out. There shouldn't be any wiring other than plugging in the module and the 12v source.

Don't understand what you are saying here but it sounds like you are describing pinging.
