gas tank cleaning
« on: January 03, 2012, 02:56:33 pm »
dropped the gas tank off the truck (84) after it had been sitting for six years.  Still had fluid in the tank, dont think its gas anymore.  All of the fluid poured out, less than two gallons, and there is no sludge or rust in the tank.  I have dried and air purged,  inside looks like good clean metal with no rust, particles, or pieces in the pour.   What might the next step be?

Tanks.

If you are happy and satisyfied with the tank, blow out all the lines also to make sure you have all the old turpintine (gas) out.  Did you check the sending unit for operation ?  If not make sure you do before you put it back in.

Thanks, that is along the lines with my thinking but this is the first time i have done this so wanted to see if there was more to it, some guys have to deal with rust and sludge.  I plan to replace the sending unit and all of the rubber fuel lines with new ones just so i know it is done and does not pose any future problems.

thanks again.

That is the safest way to go.

Fuel filter too. Might be a good idea to look at the float in the carburetor.

Use Fantastik spray cleaner.
On the tank and lines? I would have never tried that. Does it cut the gunk or something?

because the truck has been sitting so long im going to rebuild the carb as well and replace all of the filters in the truck.  everything that i can replace i will replace since it is at my convenience, the truck is already not running and there is no rush to get it there outside of want.

will look into the fantastik.
