Bad coil our more than that?

Is there anything that.could have caused this? Or is it one of those things that just wear out over time? I plan on checking my ignition systems for wear tommorow but is there anything in particular I should look for that caused my coil top blow?

Not being grounded can cause that. Couple questions come to mind. Does the engine have ground straps from the engine to the body or frame? Also was there a ground strap/ metal peice going from one screw to the center connection of the plug?

The coil was grounded to the frame around itself. And it was loose I thought that could have been the problem myself but I wasnt sure. The guy that owned it before me had stripped the screw that grounded it out so I had to replace the cap also but thanks you confirmed my suspicions.

Besides grounding (you should really fix that by the way), coils can "blow" up by under/over charging, it would be great idea to check your system out when you get to the point of installing a new one.
