My new balancer aint got no

My new harmonic balancer aint got no numbers! My old balancer had the rubber coming out the back of it, so I replaced it with a new one made by Lunati. They have a half decent reputation and I got it on sale for $89 cause the site was clearancing them. Regularly $200.

So anyway, this thing aint got no numbers! How am I supposed to tell where 10 degrees before top dead center is, with no numbers? I know this is a Ford but I also know you guys are good and if anyone knows this its yall. Its on my 95 mustang GT. My other pride and joy besides my 87 R10. I was hoping that by looking at the pics, somebody would know what line would be the zero line, and which way would be before TDC, and which way would be after TDC. Then maybe I can pinpoint where 10 degress BTDC is.

Idk get some timing tape with# s and just lay it on. I'm sure someone else will chime in:) good luck

I wouldn't even know where to stick the timing tape.

Is ther not a single line on it at all? If not id call the manufactur and see what they suggest

Yeah as you can see in the pics there are plenty of lines. Just no numbers.

If you look at pic 3, you can see that there is 1 mark out there all by itself. All lonely looking. Could that be the first mark? Or do you mean where all the lines start, that are clustered together? I have no idea why that one line is out there all by itself. But there are others like it on the other side too.

That line just may be tdc. The lines on the tape should match all the lines clustered together

Look at this tape. Can you see the resembleance between the marks on your balancer?

Was that balancer new or used that you put on? Summit sells new ones for $80.

That one was all new and shiny. Then the rust came. I would have coated it in some kind of.. clearcoat if I had known it was going to turn into a rust farm. Here is the balancer:

Oh and I bought that timing tape. Maybe I'll get lucky with it.

      Unfortunately I do not build engines, but I would assume if you could ask someone around where you live that does build engines they would have a right answer for you.

Maybe that's why they were on clearance. If it has lines on it, bring it to tdc and then you will know which line is TDC, then ge a timing tape and put the 0 on that line. Idk how ford works, but I'm sure it goes off of number 1 cylinder being a TDC like chevys.

Yeah it does. Do I need to do anything to the distributor at all? Or can I just get the number one piston up to top dead center, and then look at the balancer to see what line is at the timing mark? By timing mark, I mean that thing that you line up the balancer with when you are using a timing light to set the timing. That would be 0 right?

Measure the o.d. of the balancer carefully.  Multiply by pi (3.14).  That's the circumference of the balancer.  Put a scale or calipers between two of the marks and get that distance as accurately as you can.  Divide the circumference by the distance between marks.  Divide 360 by that number and that will tell you how many degrees the marks are apart.
Use a straw as a feeler through the spark plug hole of #1 and bump the starter to check that the long line is tdc for #1 as it should be.  Advanced should be the pointer pointing at a mark on the ccw side of the tdc line looking from the front.

I count 26 lines on each grid and they appear to cover a little more than 45 degrees of the balancer.  I think they're 2 degrees apart which is common.
