I was told to never use RTV on those end gaskets by my mechanic buddy just a dab at the place where the intake gasket goes over the black seal in the corners.  He also suggests only use RTV on the front oil pan instead of the gasket.  I have only done a few and have never had a leak following his advice.  My $.02

My motor, chevy 350 has just a thick gob of rtv right in that area...and one of my magazines show them building a motor and they said not to use the rubber gasket just a thick gob of silocone

There are defiantly different views on using RTV on the intake.  Some say never, some say you can not get certain intakes to stop leaking if you do not use some.
I am in the same lines as the others here, I have not had problems with intakes sealing with just gaskets before.  But I make sure the heads, the block ends, and the intake are flat and have a good clean, smooth surface to mate together and that the intakes are torqued down properly.

The end gaskets on top of the block go down first.  Put a dab of RTV on where the intake(metal) gasket go over the rubber ones.

What in gonna do thus time is put everyting in place then see if there is a gap between the intake an gaskets. If there a gap then I'll use the rtv in the middle aswell
