« on: May 07, 2012, 07:44:58 am »
I have a 1985 silverado k-10 with a 1980 4 bolt 350 out of a bonaza k-10,my problem is the starter bolts are stripped out .Should I put a heli core in the block or should I drill them out to the next size? The 350 has been bored out .30 over stock and runs alot better than the stock 305 ever did. Please someone help!!!!!

Don't know how bad they are stripped, but I'd try new bolts and running the correct size tap into the block if there's any chance that will work.  Heli-coil would be my next stop.

The bolts are pretty bad,a good tap did not work.I can start it up and hear the bolt are loose,so tighten them up, they are good.drive to work,go to leave need to tighten them again.I have a heli-coil set but never installed one before.

also there are some that have problems with the holes breaking.  i would only mess with them if it was the last thing to try

Larger bolts may not fit in the starter. Also be sure and shim the starter if necessary. Heli coil may be the only option, it works well if done right.

It is the bolt hole, the bolts are new and the starter is new I think I am going to give the heli-coil a shot.I just never installed one before.
