Fender Emblem Install
« on: May 09, 2012, 03:18:04 pm »
So I don't have any fender emblem on my 74 because they were removed awhile back and now I want them back. I've decided to order some off of ebay to install.

My question is, do I have to take the inner fenders out to install factory emblems in the factory locations?  The reason I ask is I just undercoated my inner fenders and don't want to take the paint off when I remove the bolts. Any ideas on how to get this done without removing the inner fenders. I've looked at the holes on the inside of the fenders and it doesn't look like there is enough room to put the jam nuts on the back of the fender emblem pins.

Any ideas would be great, thanks

If you install trim inserts (see photos- not sure if that is the correct name) into the fender badge holes, you can simply push the emblem mounting studs into the inserts.  You could also use double sided tape on the back of the emblem to ensure it doesn't come off.

I've done this with both of my trucks and it's worked great for over 10 years.

Thanks, I never thought of that. I'll see if I can find those.

I found out what they are called, Barrel Nuts. Did you happen to know what size they are? I'm gonna go the route you had mentioned, barrel nuts and 2 sided tape. Just need to get the size right for ordering.

I recommend the barrel nut/double sided tape method, but if you weren't going that route you would just have to remove the outer fender.
The other method is much easier though.
