TBI to TBI swap
« on: July 23, 2012, 08:34:06 pm »
I've got an 83 C10 2wd SWB with a TBI motor out of an early 90's truck. Not sure if it's a 305 or 350. I blew the motor last week and found a 350 TBI out of a 92 GMC with 50k miles. I've never done an engine swap before. Will my old motor just come out and the new motor go in and run by just connecting all the wires the way they were? Do I need to do anything to the computer? I had a Dodge ram that I had a new engine put in and they had to reprogram the computer in order to make the engine run. This new 350 has a RV cam in it. Will that affect the computer at all? I'm really hoping it's a straight forward swap. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it

Ricky,

as for the swap, It will be just a standard engine replacement. Get a good manual for your truck, Label all your electrical and vacuum lines, take a lot of pictures and you'll be fine.

As for the tune, I don't think you'd have any tuning issues with a 350 with a rv style camshaft, it's not that radical of a change from the stock camshaft, just a little longer duration.
