GM Files Trademark Application for "Z28"

Maybe GM will finally bring back the Z28 nameplate. I say transfer the SS nameplate to the upcoming Holden/Caprice car and fit the Z28 below the ZL1.

1) i have zero confidence in gm management.

2) They have also re-trademarked names such as titan;  It's unlikely they will produce another heavy truck though.

3) The new camaro----why so heavy?    Your thoughts?

Being a long-time Camaro fan, seeing the Z28 nameplate come back is somewhat exciting to me.  That being said, the new Camaro is not an F-Body, so....eh.  The new Camaro is built on GM's Zeta-body platform, which was designed for full-size cars such as the Buick Park Avenue and the Pontiac G8.  That is why it is so heavy. 

Therefore, the new Camaro doesn't really earn the name Camaro.

I'd have figured Z28 would have been trademarked a year or two into camaro's first gen production.  This shows GM slipping for 40 years or more...

They might mean renewal trademark.   But who cares anyways---gm has been and is dropping the ball.

Gubmint Moters.  Yeah who cares these days.  And Gubmint Moters means Old GM and Chrysler.

If I spent my money on a new car only two get my fancy, a FORD FOCUS or a FORD MUSTANG.  would be an F-150 also, but I got a truck and can't possibly justify having two trucks.... :)

Say what you will about GM (and I agree, I would much rather buy a vintage GM product over a new one), but I would still take a ZL1 if offered.

Biggest beef I have with GM is the fact that if anyone is going to start selling Made in China cars here in the US, its GM. Seriously, they are mega in-bed with the Chinese government.  And who can blame them to a point, the Chinese are the only ones still buying Buicks.

On another note, the next iteration of the Camaro is supposed to be lighter.  Personally it should loose about 500+lbs.  I would still own a ZL1, heck I would own a SS...

A loss of that much would put the 5th gen Camaro in the neighborhood of a 1st gen in terms of curb weight (3200 lbs +/-). Saddle that with the 580 hp LSA, well thats a quick ride!

I'd definately own a zl1 or ss if offered to me, but I wouldn't pay the $40k+ in payments for it.

Heck I'd take a V6 camaro if given to me.

I get the feeling that if I ever buy another new car, it will be from something other than ford, which means it'll be a foreign (tho assembled in the americas) car.  If I do go buy a new car, I will buy the one I like, whoever makes it.  Ford is the place to go though nowadays for easy horsepower.  Look at the GT (not mustang) and these true shelbys coming out.  They trump dang near anything except the $300k+ cars, which I'll never have one of those anyway, so I don't even keep up with them.  GM and its ancient pushrod motors are outclassed by all other manufacurers.  an LS-whatever vs a Ford mod motor will lose to ford every time with the same amount of mods done to it.  Stock 5.4L ford bottom ends can handle up to 800hp with stock parts.  GM can't do that...  actually haven't heard of anyone else who can.  On a show I saw one day, the guy building mod motors was complaining, that it was harder to keep the mods under 500hp for his class than it was to get 700-800hp out of it.  I'm just saying.  I'll take a equivalent mustang over any camaro GM makes. 

I love my old chevys better than anything else, but not the new GM stuff.

This has probably been stated before, but when was it (in your opinion) that GM turned the corner from making good products to bad ones? The only resentment I have to GM currently is their partaking in the bailout and my general unease about their future intentions with Chinese automakers.

They have very poor financial management abilities, which does irritate me some, but at 215,000+ troublefree miles on my 08 K1500 Z71, I have zero complaints about their product.

If the Z28 comes back, it can't outclass the SS.  it has to be online with the BOSS 302 mustang, which to get in the class both were made for required a top displacement of 5.0L or 305cu in.   

I don't know how bad the z28 or ZL1 would be, but whatever GM does, it cannot outclass the corvette, which the ford shelby GT500 ran a good 4 seconds ahead of the ZR1 in a recent shootout in a know magazine.  and the guy in the shelby ran the AC because he could.

I'm not saying the LS-whatever engines are garbage, I may end up with one in my truck before its over, but they give ford nothing to fear.  While being good engines, they are nowhere near world class or top-anything.  They had to show up with a 7L 427 to be 4 seconds behind ford 5.4L in the shelby GT350. 

I've seen 4.6L fords running 900hp on the street daily.  when have you seen a chevy 4.8 doing anything other than stock duty?

You sure you don't mean the GT500? I can't find an article on a GT350 vs a ZR1. I am not disputing you, I would just like to read the article.

you are correct...   I get the numbers 350 vs 500 mixed up since there's a ford and a shelby shelby...
