NOT GETTING FUEL

Hello All,

Let me save my intro for later 
I have an 83 C10 305, so yesterday it was idling and then just stalled, like it was not getting fuel.  I changed fuel pump, both tanks have gas, and it still will not get fuel, checked fuel line going to carb and nada.  Not sure where to go from here, all suggestions are greatly appreciated

you mentioned changing fuel pumps, try fuel filter? I had the same thing happen to me. I bought new fuel filter, had it on for maybe only 4-5 mo, and it stalled on me. I went out, bought a new fuel filter, and it runs like a charm now. Try it, why not, pretty cheap part.

You didn't describe how you checked for fuel. Were you cranking the engine with the fuel line disconnected at carburetor? If so check the tank switching valve.

It appears... there is more then one person dealing with fuel issues on this board. I also ran across a similar issue on my 1974 Chevy C10 Step side w/350 4bl-350 auto. I've been hunting down a fuel starvation issue too. I also bought a new fuel pump (mechanical) and installed it into the truck just yesterday (Sunday 10-28-2012). I also bought 5 feet of 3/8" fuel line grade hose and a new fuel filter.  I used the long top bolt method to hold the fuel pump push rod (I think this is the best way to hold the pump push rod).

Installed the new pump, fuel line and filter from the pump to the carb. Used the old fuel line to the "In" side of the pump. The "In" line is from the fuel tank(s). Started the truck and once the float bowls emptied, the truck stopped running. So I thought maybe defective pump... and a bunch of other stuff. Turned out to be the fuel line from the fuel tank to the "In" side of the fuel pump collapsed and didn't allow fuel to pass to the pump. I replaced this 6-8" of fuel line and problem solved - truck started after a few cranks and has passed the run/drive testing with no leaks or issues.

I highly suspect the fuel line from the tank to the pump was the problem all along. I bought the truck used and have no idea how old the fuel pump was. I paid $20 for a new fuel pump and is well worth it just for peace of mind. Besides, I really get pissed off when I get stuck on the road.

Next, I'm going to replace the fuel line from the tanks to the switch valve as I have duel 16 gallon tanks. Needless to say... I'm also having problems switch tanks too. The replacement switching valve is ~$50 + political fees and taxes and I would like that to work too. But may delay for a pod of working gauges for things like water temp., oil pressure and volt meters.

So.... there's my 25 cents worth...
