Jeep intermediete shaft

Hello everyone this is my first post so lets see how it goes !!!
I'm wanting to know how much modification if any will it take to fit a jeep style steer shaft (u joint)in place of my rag joint style shaft

Why would you want to?  The jeep shaft has a tendency to hammer out eventually and rattle.  Why not go with Borgeson...

i second the Borgeson shaft.... you´ll never have to worry about the shaft ever again....

I've seen the bogeson online but $248 is more than I want to spend when the gear box is only $169

Agreed, Borgeson is pricey.  What's wrong with the rag joint that you want to change?

The problem that I've experienced repeatedly with that particular shaft that's illustrated in the referenced article (I drive a Cherokee) is that the yoke directly above the holder's hand in the image is vulcanized to the shaft with a hard rubber elastomer that pounds out with normal use.  When it does, steering play increases and the yoke rattles and pops on the shaft.  The yoke is caged, so cannot separate from the shaft or break free or spin on the shaft, but the resulting free play (10° - 15°) and rattle is a bothersome nuisance.

     All very sound advice and very good.  Now you have 2 choices.  As Capt. Article stated, the Cherokee shaft is a cheap alternative as long as you under stand under harder uses it will wear out faster as BD stated.  ( I have been building jeeps for years and agree with BD ).  The solution is check every year and change as needed. (If it is going to be a street queen it might last for many years)
     If you plan on driving it hard, IE hard cornering, etc, then maybe the more expensive route is the way to go.

You can buy a new rag joint and clean up the stock steering shaft pretty easily. Works good as new when done. I just did the one on my 74
