Lens polish
« on: November 13, 2012, 08:11:37 am »
What about a plastic lens polish. I dont know what the previous owner did with my 86, but it looks like my gauge lens is pretty scratched up. I wanna fix it. Is there a chemical or polish that will get all those scratches out?

Yes it can be done with patience and care. It is easy to crack so just be careful. Use the same method for restoring headlights.

Those plastic overlays over the gauges are not that terribly expensive (mind you you have to take the bezel off first but its not the difficult). It cost about $40 for the overlay, so if the lens repair does not work, thats not too bad for a new one.

You can make an abrasive paste with baking soda and water that does much the same as those plastic lens polishing kits. I used one on a turn signal lens and it was impressive the difference it made. Scratches that you can catch with your fingernail won't polish out though.
