scat connecting rod bolts

Hey guys,

I bought a new set of Scat connecting rods from Summit, and was trying to install my bearings, but when I attempted to remove the rod bolts, I discovered I couldn't because they are EXTREMELY tight.  As in "bent a wrench" tight!  Is this normal?

ive used ARP and thats never happen.....

by the way how many ft lb did you tighten them in the first place....

None.  They came sealed in plastic like that, new in the box.

i thought they came unassembled like the ARP ones... and you went ahead and tighten them on the rods....

Not on these, apparently.  I've only unwrapped one so far.  I think I'm going to unwrap a second one to see if it's the same way.  If it is, I'm going to have to get creative... maybe blocks of wood in a vise to protect the rods so I can apply more torque...

well if you bent a wrench... thats a lot of torque unless the wrench is made in Taiwan or China, and when you put them on the rods you only tighten them at about 45lb so why would they be tighter than 45ft lb when they come from the warehouse... seems odd.... like i said never used scat bolts... i guess there is no other way than to use the vise and apply more torque... might want to check for damaged threads after....

so did you ever get them loosened?

Yep, sure did.  Clamped 'em up between a couple of 2x4 blocks in my vise and that allowed me to get them loose with minimal effort.  Main bearings arrived yesterday also, so with my long weekend I should be able to get a fair amount of assembly done.
