Hood question
« on: December 01, 2012, 10:20:12 am »
This is a Chevy K30 '86?:

This is a Chevy C10 Suburban '80 (but the front is from '75?):

Does the K30 hood fit on my Suburban? The K30 owner is scrapping his truck, and he thinks the hood doesn't fit mine, but I wanted to ask the experts here.  8)

No the hinging is different between 73-80 and 81-91.  There are more differences in the contour towards the front and the 81 on up has a cowl piece and different wipers mechanism than the 73-80.

How does the front differ between '75 and '80? I know the car is from '80, but the previous owner said the front came from a '75.

Anything between 75-80 will interchange.  The design "lip" for lack of a better word on the pictured hood is not there on the older hoods.  I am talking about the trim line on the very front of the hood.

http://www.gmsquarebody.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4201  has illustrations on what I am trying to explain.  See the hood difference change in the very front of the 79-80 hoods.

OK, here is 2 pictures that I copied for you.  The first is a 75 hood and the second is like yours on a 79

So the front of mine is definitely from '80 (or at least not '75)?

All I can say for sure is the hood pictured on the Suburban is a 79-80 hood.  If you had a better picture of the grill I might be able to tell you but being flush and not inset it reminds me of 77-78 but I am not as versed on the pre-81's as I am the 81-91 style

1980 Grill with 1977-78 headlight surrounds is the combo I believe you have.

There's a thread on here somewhere that has an illustration of 73-87 differences. I don't recall which thread but if you feel like searching...

He is! I should, but I have nothing to put it on. I don't want it on my Suburban, I would prefer a pick-up for that.

Where is he located? I'd love to snatch both the front and rear end for my '76.
