83 GMC K 1500 ring and pinion 10 bolt
« on: December 31, 2012, 09:42:44 am »
What is the biggest gear ratio I can go with on my truck without having to change rear ends.  I would like to buy a ring and pinion set and drop in. The truck has 3.08 gears now but I  putting 33 inch tires on.  Thanks.

http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-127197-gm-10-bolt-8-5-ring-pinion-yukon-gear.html says 5.13...  But remember you have to change the one up front as well...

What transmission do you have?  For 33's I would go 3.73 or 4.10 depending on what transmision you have.

I have the 700r4. Which is being overhauled right now.  And yes I know you have to change both.  Thanks again.

Anything taller and it will have the opposite effect you want.  Your engine sped will be higher when at freeway speeds you will end up burning more gas just keeping up with traffic.
