Easy Way to Clean Aluminum Wheels
« on: March 10, 2013, 09:58:01 pm »
I was helping my friend to clean up a 93 Vette today and we were having some problems getting the aluminum rims clean.  We decided to try something different.  It was funny because two hours earlier I had spent about one hour on one rim on my truck using Mother's.

Well, what we used on the Vette was Bar Keeper's Friend.  It worked so well I went straight to my truck and did all four of my wheels in 20 minutes. I got this truck in January and it had been sitting for about three or four years.  I could not beleive how good the wheels looked after 20 minutes that I dicided I would share this with all who wanted to know.

PS....Yes, I do realize I have a missing lugnut.

#1: The easiest and most obvious solution to any problem is 99% of the time correct.
#2: There is no such thing as impossible, it just takes longer.

Thanks Bake,

When I am ready to take mine to the next level these links will come in handy.  In the mean time, I am going to pull my wheels off and spend a little more time cleaning and then a decent polishing should be good for me for now.

I thought that I was going to have to spend the better part of weekend to get these shined up so I was pretty happy about my 20 minutes.  I only wish that I would have taken before pictures.

i tried that bar keep's stuff (i'd never heard of it) and it worked fantastic! my rims were almost completely black with corrosion and  gunk and within an hour of scrubbing away they look almost new. ill have to take them off one by one to get in the nooks and crannies  and some new lugs to complete the look but that stuff definitely works wonders
