New exhaust question X- vs H-pipe
« on: April 26, 2013, 03:28:45 pm »
Hey all,
Putting new exhaust this upcoming monday on the ole 77 K10 305. Nothing special for mods except a mild cam and set of flowtech afterburner headers and a edelbrock 600cfm 4bbl carb.
I'm going with my personal preference of magnaflow mufflers, but curious on what peoples opinions and thoughts are on the X or H piping and where to put the X or H in the system?
Thanks.
I should also mention I plan on doing turn downs instead of going out the sides or all the way out back. (if that matters)

you want back pressure of some sort. "x" need some room to cross in and out, "H" dont need much room at all. x will give you  more back pressure since it forces the gas to mix. h will do the job but not as much as the x will since it its not forced but its better than nothing

H pipes tend to lend performance gains in low RPM range while X pipes help high rpm gains. I prefer an H pipe to avoid unecessary obstructions. Either is better than neither

Curious why you want to do this?

The closer you can get the cross over pipe to the headers the better it will work.
