83 LWB Under Construction
« on: June 05, 2013, 01:26:33 am »
Hey guys,
          I picked up my truck earlier today and cant wait to finish fixing it.
The truck has a newer fuel injected 305 in it for now, came to me with a bhg.
Overall it isn't too bad and i'm quite happy with it and excited.
This is my first chevy truck and I have loved this body style since the first time I saw one.
Right now I only have one pic of the truck but here she is.

Thanks everybody, I'm from texas here.
After I finish moving it will be all truck time.
Right now the main plan is get it running and legal  ;D.
Then fix the few small cosmetic issues (RH inner and outer fender are shot and bed has a bad spot).
I will post more pics tomorrow after the moving is done.

Hey Guys,
  So far I have then engine back together and now i'm trying to figure out the confusing wiring.
I was not the one who pulled the wiring, also a smog and ac system has been removed.
Needless to say there is a ton of extra wires and this harness is in terrible shape to start with.
With a little luck I will get it all figured out.
Can anyone tell me where I would find the block id code?
This is not the original engine all I know is its a tbi 305.

The engine ID is on the back of the block where the bell housing bolts up.

I couldn't get back there enough to see a code anywhere. Can I use the one on the pad above the water pump?
It reads k0304fbm and below that is chs152435. Anyone know a site to decode these?

K030FBM isn't enough numbers.
The Suffix is broken down by Plant = first letter, month = next 2 numbers, day = next 2 numbers, last 2 or 3 is Engine suffix code.
K = St Catherines, Ontario Plant

30 = 30th
FBM = 1987 350 L05 TBI motor..

The other number is the partial VIN from the source truck.

thanks kaos, i've found some contradicting things on my truck.
It seems to be a 350 block with 305 heads and a 350 tbi intake all wrapped up in a 83 body.
I was originally told it was a 305 so i won't complain lol.
I'm going to pick up a set of 350 heads and a holley 4 barrel intake tomorrow.
That should fix my wiring nightmare i have going on.
Thanks again for the help.

Well I ended up with an edelbrock performer rpm intake, a set of 462624 casting heads, and an hei dizzy.
Now all I need is to get a carb and it will be good to go.
