Hooking up a tach. Which wire?

I got a 78 c10 with a 250 inline 6. Anyone know what color wire is the one I Need to hook up a tach. On the distributor I got (orange/peach)and two black (dark) color wires. Thanks

dont know for sure cause something doesn't sound right, what tach do you have. do you have a engine size switch on the tach? do you have a light on the tach? i would think orange is the signal from the distrib. and the other are ground and light but make sure you are listing the right color wires ie. if one as a white stripe

I don't have the tAch yet but most likely it will be like a sunpro. I'm going to summit racing to get it tomorrow. Says it works with all engines

ohhh i see what your question is saying thought you where saying you tach had those colors lol. on your distribitor cap it will be marked with the word tach it should be the only open plug spot on the ear. but read the top part it will say what wires go where. you dont need to tap into any wires there just put a female spade connector on a wire and it should slide in place.

this should help i know its for 8 cyl but it will give you an ideal

Mine was a 8 also but I just run the green wire off the tach and put a female connecter on it, pushed it on the only open spot and 'presto' working tach.

6 is same as 8.   Connect it to the "tach" it will give you a 12 volt signal to drive the tachometer.

Thanks to everyone that helped it worked perfect thanks. It was labeled "tach" just put a connector on the wire and it worked

Your tach will most likely have a switch to select 4/6/8 cylinders. Make sure to select the correct setting or your tach will be inaccurate for the 6cyl engine. Almost all tacks come default set to 8 cylinders.
