shaving the body of my 85 silverado
« on: October 01, 2013, 07:54:48 pm »
I have a 85 Silverado, I want to shave off all of the molding, drip rails and get smaller mirrors for the doors. I know that all of the side moldings are held on by adhesive accept for the bed corners but I also want to delete the molding behind the cab and on the tailgate. I would also like to get smaller door mirrors like on the 67- 72 C10 could some one suggest where I can get the mirrors and how difficult the swap would be

I believe the store on this site is selling the earlier truck parts, check with Chris.
Are you capable of welding and doing minor fabrication ?  If so, the mirrors should not be hard, look here http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php/topic,18539.0.html for mirror mounting help, this is for 73 - 87's, but should give you some advice on what you need to do to mount different mirrors.

We sell 67-72 mirrors, just not in the store.  They are $49.95.
I don't have a vendor (looking for one) that sells the 73-87 small mirror, but classic industries sells them

Are you wanting to know HOW to remove the trim on the cab?  The tailgate trim just unbolts but you will be left with holes.

I am going to keep the trim/molding behind the cab and on the tailgate because it is the most cost effective route just need to find replacement parts.

How bad are you current pieces?  I don't have the cab trim except used, and I would check with Cheyenne pickup for the tailgate trim.

the trim is not rusty just discolored and the coating on the Chevrolet on the tailgate trim is starting to flake off. is there a way to restore them

wet sanding and or scuffing with clear coat can polish up just about anything on your truck trim wise.

i redid my taillights with the wet sanding and clear coat option. it took the reverse lights from a clear yellow color to a clear white color. made a world of difference.
