oil gauge issue
« on: October 18, 2013, 09:26:08 pm »
Hey all,

I replaced the incorrect gauges in my '83 Silverado with another set I bought recently at a swap meet.  (When I bought the truck, it had aftermarket manual gauges, and all I had to replace them with were a set of the earlier style my dad had lying around.)  The gauge that was in place had been working prior to removal.  When I put the "new" cluster in, everything seemed to go to it's correct initial position, except the oil pressure gauge.  It immediately went all the way up (pointing to the 3 o'clock position).  What could be the problem?  Is it just a lack of current from one of the connections?  I figured it has to be either the connection at the gauge itself or the back of the cluster.  Since the previous gauge worked, I figure one of these has to be the answer, but I had other things I had to get done this evening and had to leave it for now.

Thanks for the input!
Jim

what year truck and what year previous and current cluster?  Does the sender match the new cluster?

Thanks for getting back to me bud.  I actually figured it out - must have been just a connection problem.  As soon as I started to remove the screw holding the gauge in, it went back down to the lowest reading and has been working fine since.
