350 engine - rod bearing size?
« on: October 31, 2013, 12:58:47 am »
Im rebuilding this 350 4-bolt main stock engine, just want to know if anyone knows how to tell if my rod bearings are standard size.  On the bearing it says - Clemex  188 - is this standard ?

You need to measure the journal diameter of each and every journal on the crank. If they are under then you will need an oversize bearing. Do not base your measurements off of what's already in there. I'm going to suggest you pick up a book on rebuilding small block chevy's if you aren't an expert. If they are out of spec you will need to have the crank machined and add appropriate oversize bearings.

yea- your right - the measurement you need is the crank journal and the inside diameter of the rod itself - Do have an idea what the stock measurements should be ? As in ballpark?

From 1968-up all SBC's used 2.10" rod journals.

The bearing inserts will be stamped on the backside with its undersized value.

If it doesn't have 010 020 030 somewhere, then you can assume that your bearing inserts are standard size.

thats what i was thinking- it not having the  010 020 030 stamped on it. I measured them and
they are within the 2.10(standard) measurement you said .... captkaos.   thanks much!!
