seeking 74 dash bezel in wood grain
« on: December 11, 2013, 05:30:03 pm »
I have a 74 gmc, it had a black plastic dash bezel that previous owner cut on a bit.  I tried to find another one and ordered one from another company, but the fit is wrong.  More specifically, the windshield wiper is over sized, the headlight switch is the wrong size.  If I had to guess, it is a 75 that was labeled wrong.  I sent it back .. I am still struggling to find the correct dash online.

I would really like to find a wood grained version, which I know were made at some point.
Any ideas on where I could get this at?

I stole this pic from another (somewhat legendary) poster here, this is what I am looking for.  The upper and lower sections.

quick questions, who did you "steal" the pic from, because I really like those one piece door panels. I am curious if there are custom or bought some where, and I would not mind asking them to see.

I love those door panels.  I would like to know as well.  I could see how they might be made using the factory panel and lower panel.  Fiberglass them together and then cover in fabric.

Oh yeah - wood grain.  It looks to me like they made those pieces.  The one over the bezel looks thick and I bet the one above the glove box is the same.

The truck from the above picture is from VileZambonie's thread.  Those images are a few pages in, I am pretty sue he made the door panels.

To my knowledge, nobody is reproducing the woodgrain dash trim pieces or the woodgrain door panel pieces, which leaves NOS, good used or make something...

A while back, I started looking into doing something to restore door panel wood trim pieces by going with a water transfer film with a pattern closest to original that I could :

The local taxidermist was setup to do the job, but work transfered me to across the state and the project fell to the back burner.

Classic Chevrolet parts have wood grain bezel inserts. They have burl and walnut for the 75-77 trucks. They say both are not original.
Burl part number P7577-10252-B    $54.95
Walnut part number P7577-10252-W $79.95

I just realized you have a 74. Sorry, the 75-77 is all they list.

Muldoon, have you tried to PM Vile and ask if the wood bezel was original in his truck or if he ordered it somewhere.  You might be surprised especially if he ordered.

I "think" it was a Wabbits cluster.

Thanks, it certainly looks like it for the upper.  The lower section looks different, and it does not appear to match the 74 layout for headlights and windshield wiper.  I'll give them a call.
