Is your truck a single or dual tank truck ?

few questions...

1. is it dual tank like bake said? if you do, could be the selector valve... if not see below.
2. do you have a multimeter? if so, since you have gauge off...what is the reading at the pink wire behind fuel gauge. 0 is empty - around 90 is FULL.
3. check the sending unit wire on top of the tank. you can see it if you sit in front of rear wheel and look above tank. it will be either black, blue or purple and is a post press on connection.

my thinking is the actual sending unit is bent or incorrect for application.

Disconnect the green wire.  Measure the ohms between that wire and ground.  Whatcha got?

BTW, is there a resistor across the two outside terminals of the gauge?

I have no clue what you just typed.  Disconnect the green wire from the gauge.  Measure the resistance in ohms with an ohmmeter from the green wire to the black wire.  Also, take the resistor off (I assume it's there) and measure the resistance in ohms of the resistor.

What is the part number on the back?  Should be a number like 3314 or 3317.
