truck has no dome light
« on: February 17, 2014, 08:32:53 pm »
got a 1975 2 wheel drive Cheyenne that has no dome light. the plug with the orange and white wire behind the seat is there and when I bought the truck I hooked up some LEDs to it but I really want to put the actual dome light up there, but I'm not sure where it goes or where to get one. there are no holes in my roof where one would have been , if I drill a hole can I feed the dome light wire through the cab or will it just drill a hole through my roof?? any help is appreciated also pics are great too thank you guys

you can drill one (there is an inner layer and an outer layer of metal) you just need to be careful not to go too far or youll have a hole in the outsside. check the website store may have one there. if i were you i would try to find some pics of a truck that had one stock so you know what you need to do. ill look this weekend and see if any of the trucks i have laying around had dome lights.

not the greatest picture but you can see the light in accordance with the sliding rear window that is closed.  so near the center of the cab.  my headliner is loose.  i would image if you pulled your headliner down you could see where it mounts too as there should be a hole already and they just didn't cut the new liner.  thats just a guess.

It appears you don't have a headliner from the pictures and you also don't have a hole if that is the case.  If that is the case you will have to cut a hole in the roof based on the mount you have.  If you position it up there it should be easy to determine where it goes...

thank u for the pic. yes no headliner and also no holes from where the light was. there are some holes on my ceiling tho. one on passenger rear side which I'm assuming was from a hook. the other two hole locations are above the visors. any idea what those were?

is there a dome light that mounts by a couple screws that way I don't have to cut a rectangle out of my roof

the holes im not sure. i thought the ones in the ceiling might be for trim but doesn't look like it in the pic. who knows a previous owner may have had some kind of light inside and had the controls and the bezel

the three wires,  ground, switched power, and the other probably constant power if the sides are push in lights
