Carter p4070 elec fuel pump question?

I just bought this pump to put on my 75 c10 w/ 327 in it. PO had a cheapy that I didn't want to wait for it to go out. I have used this pump before on a f100 with great results. My problem is for some reason I am getting 15psi out of the pump. The guage is just before the carb and is new. The pump is mounted down near the tank. So am I sending it too much juice somehow? The hot wite to the pump is running strait into the fuse box to a keyed on source. Should I have an inline fuse on this wire? I'm confused because these pumps are supposed to put out a max of 6psi so I am not sure why I am getting the 15psi reading. Thats in advance for the help fellas. I don't want to screw up my new pump.

It should require 12 volts, but I don't use electric pumps on carbs, the factory mechanical works fine and lasts forever for me.
I would check to see if you have a restriction in the line.

Thanks Capt, could you explain a restriction? I am a bit confused because I am worried I have too many volts going to the pump making it run in mega high gear to give me too much gas at 15 psi. Sorry I am learning all of this. Thanks

I am not familiar with that pump at all, but if it is for automotive use it should take 12 volts. It should come with a suggested wiring also.
As for restriction, remove the hose from the end and see if it free flowing.

Ian, Does your pump have 1/4" fittings or 3/8" fittings?

It has 3/8 fittings, I have it all together now. Seems to be running really good. The one thing thats off id I have the regulator set at 3.5 psi and the gauge is reading 5.

Exactly! I'm guessing you don't have the 4070..which has 1/4" fittings, but the 4601 which has 3/8" fittings & a max pressure of 16, which the couple I've used showed about 14-15psi. Maybe boxed wrong? Lorne
