No wonder Proform parts doesn't post a price for their valve covers., because they are outrageous in mullah ...... Why can't people be fair on prices in our generation and not charge an arm and a leg?

Man I can't wait until this bad boy is finished. If my 33's weren't brand new I would buy yours. If I ever make it to Colorado I'm buying the beers!

Thanks Minus!  Man too back that they are new! Lol we could of went through the online classifieds here on the forum! I can't wait until it's done too ,,, seriously.... I'm facing opposition through my other half right now..... Always something..... She will be driving a 2006 Hyundai sante fe, and her dodge 1500 4x4,,,,,  is that not enough to make just about anyone happy?! The only thing that is all exclusive to me and my only ride is my truck being built.... Her truck gets horrible gas mileage... Willing to bet my big block chevy will get the same mileage her is getting... It is really a gas hog,,, the dodge......  Anyways.... I've sold off everything I own except for the things I absolutely will not part with... I will post what all was sold to keep this truck going.... It's an INSANE LIST and exactly to a T how much it cost to build.... Which totals a grotest number...... Could of purchased two rebuilt restored big block chevy trucks for how much I've spent and my folks too, so selling it would be absolutely stupid, dumb, ignorant , etc etc etc.... So I can't understand why my other half doesn't get the picture...... It's aggravating....  Anyways.... I sold my 2007 Toyota tundra 5.7l 4x4 club cab to get us into this house , bought her a good truck, bought the best tires money could buy for her, then bought myself a junker, sold the junker, paid bills, bought the chevy on the last dollars I had, traded a few dear things of mine for it too.... And since then "cleaned house " on pretty much everything... Sold off this and that , to keep this truck going along and heading in a good direction, being built through and through kind of direction which I felt it needed.... And so the word can't afford , selling it, etc doesn't sit well at all with me because I haven't taken a dime from my wife for anything on my truck..... So I don't see what the big deal is? Anyways.... Going off on a tangent here..... It won't be driven until every last thing is in order on the truck and everything that needs to be done is done.... Which is a lot,,,, but ,,,, hopefully this winter I will finish it.... We will see..... Cross your fingers and pray for me! And if you ever make it out here to colorado we will go camping in the mountains and take the chevy along ! You bring the beer! Haha

FearNoMan, I have followed your build pretty closely. You are on the right path with your truck. I almost went the same path with my 1979 long bed when I had to build the motor the last time. I stayed with the small block. I have always said "Big Blocks equal Big Bucks". There is no cheap parts on a Big Block Chevy. You are doing the same thing that a guy that I knew did  back in 1990. I will tell you that story via PM if you are interested.

Keep the faith and take it one step at a time. You will get there.
It's been a LONG time since I have been called a newbie. Just sayin....

Thanks Don,,, I appreciate it...I've tried to keep it going without affecting my family... That's the biggest thing...my wife's happiness is most important to me...... It may not seem like it... But I have put everything on the backburner since the start of this build until now.... Everything put into this truck I've sold what I myself owned to keep it going and also to keep me from asking my wife for a dime....Fixing my wife's car or my wife's truck at times is priority uno and there has come a point though even though I've put her first throughout all of this and my 3 children and I've kept her funds completely out of this project / build ... That she is not that enthused or excited over it for a few reasons... Gas mileage... Cost of the build.. Time spent into it... Length of time it's taken... Where I'm at with it and how much I still have left.....time wise and financially... So those reasons have kept her from enjoying this project or wanting to know progress.... To me... It's not worth the cost it has costed me with her feelings on it.... And 2nd financially too... My gosh I could of bought 3 brand new crate motors and 3 used decent trucks.... For how much has been put into this .... So.... I mean yeah it will be built much better than a crate motor and through and through on the truck but dang I wish It was not only done but winter is now approaching.....

That means cold weather, snow, wind, hail, freezing temperatures .... Hard to work in type of weather. And it's right at our doorstep here where we live.... I don't know how long or what I'll be able to accomplish in the coming months..... Things have slowed down on progress because of finances and time has become shorter so I can't just leave my family hanging and go work on the truck for hours and hours... So I'm trying to keep a simple mindset of timeframe and cost and not make myself feel like there is a certain timeframe I have to get it done by or a certain dollar amount I still need to put into it.... I'm just trying not to think of those factors, take one day at a time.... And keeping the mindset of don't expect anything to get done... So I'm just going to kick my feet up on the truck project and enjoy whatever I'm able to get done on it.... I'm still trying to rebuild replace everything on it...I thought it would be done by end of May but boy was I wrong on that. Here it is the middle of September ..... Lol.... So at this point..... There's no rush.... I doubt I'll have it done by thanksgiving so I'm not sweating it anymore... I got too wrapped up in it... I have 90 percent of all the parts, motor is finished being built in its entirety besides fuel lines and things like that... The new Dana 60 and 70 axles are installed...new  Suspension installed, frame restored, body sanded and painted... So honestly... This slowing down has actually helped me clear my head on it.... I realized I was putting too much thought, too much money, too much focus on the truck in my off time.... And now that pretty much everything is done it just needs assembled ,,, I'll try to do one thing at a time.

Starting with getting the big block installed correctly and smoothly.... After the transmission housing is cleaned thoroughly.... Then the dog house will get installed after MANY things in the engine bay are squared away and taken care of, then after new fuel lines and hoses are installed , the gas tank is thoroughly flushed And cleaned out. Axles have new drive shafts, u joints are replaced, and everything is in order, the bed will be mounted on the frame. Then the wiring in the cab will be gone through and replaced... Gauges hooked up, interior will be gone through... I need rims for the truck for the street/ mountains. These rims were just for the project.... I have a plethora of parts to correctly install... Exhaust needs mounted on and welded in place... There's so much to do that it's discouraging.... Thinking of it in stages makes it easier... Seems thinking of it in stages helps to know its possible to get it done the way I'm wanting it to get done... Building things in my mind,,, start from the foundation and work myself up to the roof replacing pretty much everything, that's what I'm doing here with this truck,,, last truck I'm building and driving and I want it to be built through and through.... I do have one big dilemma though....

I am a stay at home dad, watch after three children, cook, clean, maintain the house and vehicles kind of dad. I don't work... And my wife says she isn't putting gas in my truck I built .... Period.... End of story..... Lol... She's dead serious about it too.... So we will see what happens with that... So here all this time and money go into it, build it through and through, and when it's finally complete there won't be so much as a drop of gas to go into it.... Lol wow,,, what have I got myself into by building it the way I did..... I big cluster of a mess,,, should of built a motor on the side, kept the 305 in it, drove it until she dropped out on me, all the meanwhile accumulating 1 ton axles, suspension, parts, rebuilding a big block on the side, getting everything I needed, then next summer replace everything under the sun... Instead of being with a truck of my own since February until now and who knows how long it will be until I'm actually done with it and then driving it... I'm going to have to get creative on how I'm going to put gas into it when it IS done,,, finally .... So any thoughts or comments would be much appreciated.... And yes I'd love to hear that story about that guy you knew back in 1990 that did the same thing. Feel free to post on it my build thread I have for this truck since it's similar, if not I would love to read about in a PM sent to me... So your 79' long bed small block build,,, tell me about that, would you? ....  I'm trying to keep my eyes on a Jesus first, my wife second, my children third, and my truck last.... JESUS IS COMING BACK............ by the way guys just so everyone is brought into the open on that. We are living in the end days..... it will be in our lifetime, this generation.... So those of you who don't know Jesus as your Lord and savior. Send me a personal message or post on the thread and I will help steer you in the right direction, you can even drop me your phone number and I'll talk with you. If you haven't accepted him into your life, I promise you your heart and life will change forever.... Even after your death here on earth.... Jesus is eternal, and so is the gift of life he gives us when we accept and follow him.....
