In the picture it looks like someone welded up a crack in the frame.
We are playing around with old trucks and these are some of the problems that we have to deal with.  I would have an experienced welder check it out.

On page 6 of this build he states that the truck had a 8 foot bed and the frame was shortened to fit a 6 foot bed on it. The frame has been cut and welded on both sides in the same spot. I do agree that he should have the welds looked at by an experience welder. I would also pay close attention to them after driving the truck awhile especially if you crank it up. Wait- did I say if? Who am I kidding?   After you launch the truck a couple of dozen times, take a close look at the frame. :)

BTW- In that pic, I am not looking at the weld on the frame. I am looking at that really small u joint on the rear driveshaft. I predict a future post concerning a new u joint installation. Wait a minute, you are having a new driveshaft made right? Make sure to tell them about the estimated HP and ask for any "suggestions" they may have. Just a thought.. :) Truck is looking and sounding good. :)

Good catch Don5. I went back and read page 6.   I have been following this thread but I missed the part about the frame being converted from a  long bed to a short bed.
Mystery solved.

It's okay Irish , I don't expect people to read through the entire build.

Cleaned up the hood today it's looking good, a few more sessions of trying to restore it and it ought to be looking nice. The plan is to paint the rims tomorrow, we will see what the weather does tomorrow. I'm also planning on painting other things as well. Ie axles.  I got a bunch of microfiber buffing pads and gloss black paint ( rustoleum ) today at Walmart . I want to square away the painted piece that is underneath the grill and do what I can to restore that as well.  No news on the radiator yet guys, I have to see how much that will be to fix still. Replacing it is expensive. Because of the fans. I need to drain the motor oil of the break in oil and put fresh oil in it too, along with changing the oil filter too of course.  My brake lines I didn't replace yet, just waiting for a day to do that.  I havn't figured out why I'm blowing fuses either.. Still a list of things to do but gets smaller every day if I keep at it

What???? :o Now you tell us! ;D I remember you mentioning that the truck had been shortened before you bought it. And that the PO never mentioned it. I looked through your thread until I found it. :)

Oh okay sorry Irish lol. Well to clear it up , it was indeed a long bed , the frame is cut off at the end of the truck and has been welded together , the Previous pictures will show it. I'll have it looked at just in case.
